Introduction
Compound fertilizers are multi-nutrient fertilizers containing two or more nutrient elements. They are synthesized for ease of application, cost efficiency, and enhancing crop yield.
The Production Process of Compound Fertilizer
Raw Material Preparation
The primary raw materials include nitrogen, phosphorous, and potassium compounds. Common sources are ammonium nitrate (NH4NO3), urea (CH4N2O), ammonium phosphate, and potassium chloride (KCl).
Batching and Mixing
Accurate batching is crucial. Each nutrient component is precisely weighed to maintain a specific N-P-K ratio, such as 10-20-10, meaning 10% nitrogen, 20% phosphorous, and 10% potassium.
Granulation
In the granulation phase, the mixed materials are formed into granules using granulators. Typical parameters include an optimal moisture content of 2-5% and a granule size range of 2-4 mm.
Drying
Moisture reduction to below 1% is achieved using rotary dryers at temperatures between 80-100°C. This ensures granule stability and prevents caking.
Cooling
The dried granules are cooled to ambient temperature using rotary coolers. This is essential to prevent moisture absorption and degradation.
Screening
Granules are screened to ensure uniformity, removing oversized and undersized particles. Proper size enhances the effectiveness of application.
Coating
Coating with anti-caking agents or nutrients enhances shelf life and nutrient release. Application rates typically range from 0.1% to 0.5% depending on the coating material used.
Packaging
The final product is packaged in sacks or bulk containers, ready for distribution to agricultural markets.
