Polyester and Nylon Analyze Brief

POLYESTER is characterized by wrinkle resistance and moisture absorption. It also has strong resistance to acid and alkali, and UV resistance. The famous recycled polyester brands are REPREVE, JIAREM,GRS.

Nylon is also called polyamide. Its advantages are high strength, high wear resistance, high chemical resistance and good resistance to deformation and aging. The famous nylon brands are NILIT,PERTEX and CORDURA.

DIFFERENCES

Polyester has a bright luster with glittering effect. it touches smooth and supportive. but it is not soft enough. Grab tightly with your hands and loose, it quickly go back to original flatness without obvious creases.
Nylon has a dull gloss. the surface has a wax-like feel.its color is not bright. Grab tightly with your hands and loose, there are creases. But it can slowly return to its original shape. It’s softer than polyester.

Nylon performance VS Polyester performance

Nylon advantages:

1. Good strength, good abrasion resistance. Nylon ranks first among all fibers. Its abrasion resistance is 10 times that of cotton fiber, 10 times that of dry viscose fiber, and 140 times that of wet fiber. Therefore, its durability is excellent.

2. Hygroscopicity is not bad among synthetic fiber fabrics, so the clothes made of nylon are more comfortable to wear than polyester clothes.

3. Nylon fabric is a light fabric, which is only listed after polypropylene and acrylic fabrics in synthetic fiber fabrics. Therefore, it is suitable for making mountaineering clothes, winter clothing, etc.

4. High softness, skin-friendly comfort is better than polyester

Nylon’s Disadvantage

1. It is easy to deform under small external force, so the fabric easily wrinkles during wearing

2. The heat and light resistance are not good enough, the ironing temperature should be controlled below 140 ℃. Pay attention to the washing and maintenance conditions during wearing and use, so as not to damage the fabric.

Polyester Advantage

1. It is very easy to dry after washing, and the strength is almost not reduced when wet. Meanwhile it is not deformed.

2. Polyester is the best heat-resistant fabric among synthetic fabrics, with a melting point of 260°C and an ironing temperature of 180°C. With thermoplasticity, it can be made into pleated skirts with long-lasting pleats.

3. The light fastness of polyester fabric is better than nylon. Its light fastness is better than all natural fiber fabric. Especially the light fastness behind the glass is very good, almost on par with acrylic fiber. Polyester fabric has good resistance to various chemicals. Acids and alkalis do not damage them much, and they are not afraid of molds and insects.

4. high strength. The short fiber strength is 2.6~5.7cN/dtex, and the high tenacity fiber is 5.6~8.0cN/dtex. The impact strength is 4 times higher than nylon and 20 times higher than viscose fiber.

5. Good flexibility. The elasticity is close to that of wool, and it can almost completely recover when it stretches 5% to 6%.

6. The wrinkle resistance is better than other fibers, that is, the fabric is not wrinkled and has good dimensional stability. The modulus of elasticity is 22~141cN/dtex, which is 2~3 times higher than nylon.

7. Corrosion resistance. It is resistant to bleaching agents, oxidants, hydrocarbons, ketones, petroleum products and inorganic acids. It is resistant to dilute alkali, not afraid of mildew, but hot alkali can make it decompose.

Polyester’s Disadvantage

1. Poor hygroscopicity. People feel hot and stuffy when wearing. And easy to be charged with static electricity and dirt, which affects appearance and comfort.

2. Poor melting resistance. It is easy to form holes when encountering soot, sparks, etc. Therefore, try to avoid contact with cigarette butts, sparks, etc. when wearing.
